What the map shows
Night, with a soft edge
Shading starts just before sunset, is about half strength at the end of civil twilight, and reaches full night when the sun is 12° below the horizon.
The sun
A small sun sits over the spot on Earth where it’s directly overhead.
Your cities
Each city on your clock gets a pin with its name, or your label, and its time. Your home city has a ring.
No seam through your cities
The map centers itself away from your cities, so its edge never splits a group of them. In the vertical layout it scrolls sideways.
Move time, watch the night move
The map follows the converter. Type a time or scroll over a card and the map shows that moment, so you can see who’ll be in daylight for a call on Thursday afternoon. Click a pin to convert from that city.
Real sunrise and sunset for every city
The same sun math colors the city cards. Each card knows its city’s coordinates and works out how high the sun is there, so it turns to night at the real sunset, not at a fixed hour. Hover a card for today’s sunrise and sunset.
It uses the standard astronomical formulas (the NOAA-style method that SunCalc uses). Sunrise and sunset are the moments the center of the sun is 0.833° below the horizon, which allows for refraction and the size of the sun’s disc. Near the poles, the card says “Sun doesn’t rise today” or “Sun doesn’t set today” when that’s the case.
The phase under each city’s name comes from the sun too: Dawn from 6° below the horizon until the sun is 6° up, Golden in the evening once it’s lower than 10°, Dusk from sunset until 6° below, and Night beyond that.

Offline by design
The land outlines come from Natural Earth, a public domain map dataset, and ship inside the app. There are no map tiles to download, and the app never asks where you are: “Local” is simply your Windows time zone.
